About us

Wandering Cats was founded by local Kinney country resident Megan Vale in 2021. Megan was 18 when she first had the dream to create TNR program to serve her community and worked for the better half of 2021 to realize that dream. During that summer after work had been done to apply for nonprofit status and a 501c3 exemption she was able to get in contact with the San Antonio Feral Cat Coalition who offered to send a representative out to do an educational presentation for the community. In early August two presentations were held both on Fort Clark Springs and in Brackettville. There Wandering Cats was able to garner invaluable support from the community and find our foundational volunteers and BOD members. From there we were able to get a high volume spay neuter clinic in Boerne on board and later on a private clinic in Eagle Pass. In November of 2021 we trapped our first 4 cats and it was a marathon ever since then. Wandering cats was able to TNR almost 200 cats in our first year and 500 cats as of March 2025. Our dedicated group of volunteers worked tirelessly to work through a very long request list for help for the next 4 years. In the spring of 2025 Megan got married and moved to Lousiana and passed the baton to her wonderful board members and volunteers although maintains her board seat and assists remotely. Wandering cats supports its mission through an annual golf tournament, monthly donors, colony feeders, merch sales, and one time donations. We also table booths at various community events to help educate the public on the importance of spay and neuter and raise funds as well.

Our partner Clincs

Hill Country Animal League / Eagle Pass Veterinary Hospital

We work with two incredible clinics regularly and would not be able to do it without them. Each cat we take in gets spayed or neutered and receives a rabies and FVCRP vaccine as well as an ear tip on their left ear.

Hill Country Animal League in Boerne, TX is a high volume spay neuter clinic that allows us to bring in feral cats once a week. We pay on average $65 per surgery depending on male or female and not including extra medical costs needed. Although it is a 2 1/2 drive the price is very accessible for us and we enjoy working with their incredible team.

Eagle Pass Veterinary Hospital is a private vet in Eagle Pass, TX that gives us a discounted price of $90 per cat not including extra medical costs as needed. They allow us to come as needed with flexible appointment slots.

Can you tell we are a big fan of our clinics? We are so grateful for the work they do that enables us to help our community.
